มหาวิทยาลัยแม่ฟ้าหลวง (มฟล.) โดย สำนักวิชานิติศาสตร์ จัดพิธีบำเพ็ญกุศลทักษิณานุปทาน “พระเจ้าบรมวงศ์เธอ พระองค์เจ้ารพีพัฒนศักดิ์ กรมหลวงราชบุรีดิเรกฤทธิ์” เนื่องในโอกาส “วันรพี” ซึ่งตรงกับวันที่ 7 สิงหาคม ในการนี้ รองศาสตราจารย์ ดร.ชูเกียรติ น้อยฉิม คณบดีสำนักวิชานิติศาสตร์ เป็นประธานในพิธี พร้อมด้วยคณาจารย์ เจ้าหน้าที่ นักศึกษาของสำนักวิชา พร้อมด้วยแขกผู้มีเกียตร เข้าร่วมพิธีเมื่อวันพุธที่ 5 สิงหาคม 2569 ณ วิหารพระเจ้าล้านทองเฉลิมพระเกียรติฯ มฟล.

"วันรพี" ตรงกับวันที่ 7 สิงหาคม ของทุกปี ซึ่งเป็นวันคล้ายวันสิ้นพระชนม์ ของพระเจ้าบรมวงศ์เธอ พระองค์เจ้ารพีพัฒนศักดิ์ กรมหลวงราชบุรีดิเรกฤทธิ์ ผู้ทรงได้รับการยกย่องให้เป็น "พระบิดาแห่งกฎหมายไทย" โดยพระองค์ทรงวางรากฐานระบบกฎหมายและการศาลยุติธรรมของไทยให้มีความเจริญก้าวหน้าเป็นปึกแผ่นมั่นคงถึงปัจจุบัน

พระเจ้าบรมวงศ์เธอ พระองค์เจ้ารพีพัฒนศักดิ์ กรมหลวงราชบุรีดิเรกฤทธิ์ มีพระนามเดิมว่า "พระองค์เจ้ารพีพัฒนศักดิ์" อันเป็นที่มาของ “วันรพี” พระองค์ประสูติเมื่อวันที่ 21 ตุลาคม พ.ศ. 2417 เป็นพระราชโอรสองค์ที่ 14 ในพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว (รัชกาลที่ 5) ในวัยเยาว์ทรงเรียนภาษาไทยกับพระยาศรีสุนทรโวหาร (น้อย อาจารยางกูร) และเรียนที่โรงเรียนพระตำหนักสวนกุหลาบ จากนั้นทรงไปศึกษาต่อด้านกฎหมายที่มหาวิทยาลัยออกซฟอร์ด ประเทศอังกฤษ จนทรงสำเร็จการศึกษาด้วยคะแนนยอดเยี่ยม ทรงมีพระกรณียกิจสำคัญในการปฏิรูปกฎหมายและศาล คือการจัดตั้งโรงเรียนกฎหมายแห่งแรกขึ้นในประเทศไทย เพื่อสอนวิชากฎหมายให้แก่บุคคลทั่วไป อีกทั้งทรงวางรากฐานกระบวนการยุติธรรม โดยสะสางคดีความที่คั่งค้าง และจัดระเบียบศาลยุติธรรมใหม่ให้มีความทันสมัยและเป็นสากล ทรงสิ้นพระชนม์เมื่อวันที่ 7 สิงหาคม พ.ศ. 2463 ณ กรุงปารีส ประเทศฝรั่งเศส สิริพระชนมายุ 45 พรรษา กาลต่อมา รัฐบาลจึงกำหนดให้วันที่ 7 สิงหาคม ของทุกปี เป็น "วันรพี" เพื่อรำลึกถึงพระกรุณาธิคุณที่มีต่อระบบกฎหมายไทยให้มีความทัดเทียมนานาประเทศ

MFU School of Law Holds Merit-Making Ceremony on “Raphi Day” to Honor HRH Prince Raphi Phatthanasak

Mae Fah Luang University (MFU), through the School of Law, organized a merit-making ceremony to dedicate merit to HRH Prince Raphi Phatthanasak, Prince of Ratchaburi, the Father of Thai Law, on the occasion of “Raphi Day,” observed annually on August 7. Associate Professor Dr. Chukeat Noichim, Dean of the School of Law, presided over the ceremony, joined by faculty members, staff, students, and honored guests on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the Phra Chao Lan Thong Chaloem Phra Kiat Vihara, MFU.

"Raphi Day" is observed on August 7 each year to commemorate the passing of HRH Prince Raphi Phatthanasak, Prince of Ratchaburi Direkrit, who is revered as the "Father of Thai Law." The Prince laid the groundwork for Thailand's modern legal and judicial system, establishing a solid foundation that continues to serve the nation today.

HRH Prince Raphi Phatthanasak, originally named Prince Raphi Phatthanasak, inspired the designation "Raphi Day." He was born on October 21, 1874, as the 14th son of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V). In his youth, he studied Thai language under Phraya Srisundharavohara (Noi Achariyangkura) and attended Suankularb Palace School. He later pursued legal studies at Oxford University in the United Kingdom, graduating with high honors.

Among his most significant contributions to legal and judicial reform was the establishment of Thailand’s first law school to offer formal legal education to the public. He modernized and standardized the judicial process by clearing backlogged cases and reorganizing the court system to meet international standards. The Prince passed away on August 7, 1920, in Paris, France, at the age of 45. Subsequently, the Thai government designated August 7 of every year as "Raphi Day" to honor his profound contributions to elevating the Thai legal system onto the international stage.
